Spring Clean your Home and Declutter

Spring Clean your Home and Declutter

With the winter season finally coming to an end, it's time to start thinking about spring cleaning your home again. A lot of us neglect our homes over the winter months, particularly after Christmas, and although cleaning can be a chore, a thorough spring clean is a great way to get your home feeling fresh and rejuvenated in the approach to summer. Here's how to get started...

Allow yourself enough time

For some people, spring cleaning is a joy to be looked forward to all year; but for most of us, it's not high on our list of priorities. As a result, we often don’t allocate much time to cleaning and find ourselves becoming overwhelmed as the hour's pass by and little progress is made. If you dedicate adequate time to spring cleaning it will make the whole process much easier and you'll feel accomplished at the end.

Stock up on cleaning products

Before you can start spring cleaning your home it is important that you have the right kinds of cleaning products. Prepare for the spring clean by buying these products in advance, so that you have all the tools you need. Products that will be useful include;

  • Anti-bacterial spray
  • Bathroom and kitchen cleaners
  • Bleach
  • A multi-purpose cleaning spray
  • Wooden floor or carpet cleaner
  • Cleaning cloths and sponges

Where should I spring clean?

You should focus on the areas of the home that don't often get as much attention throughout the winter months. There are some areas in the home that we always clean but during the winter, other tasks get avoided. Some of the key areas for spring cleaning include:

  1. Floors: it is more than likely that you haven’t bothered to clean your floors throughout the winter months, and even if you did, you probably didn’t clean them that regularly. This is an area that definitely needs some attention when you are spring cleaning; it is the perfect time to give carpets a deep clean and give wooden floors a once over and a polish.
  2. Windows: this is another area that will have been neglected during the winter but can become really noticeable as the weather starts to improve. Dirty windows can make your home look untidy even if it is spotless and clean inside. You can use your multi-purpose spray or go with a purpose-made window cleaning liquid to get rid of dirt and grime.
  3. Furniture: spring provides the perfect opportunity to clean the furniture in your home. Any wooden or plastic furniture can be cleaned with a disinfectant or multi-purpose cleaner. For upholstered furniture, like sofas, try steam cleaning for maximum effect and minimal damage.

Clear the clutter

Along with cleaning the rest of your home, you should also clear some of the clutter around your home. It is the perfect opportunity to do this while you are spring cleaning as you will be able to go through what you don’t actually need anymore. This can make your home seem much more spacious and clean. If you simply can’t bear to get rid of some of the belongings then you should consider self storage instead.
