Easy Steps to Declutter your Home Office

Easy Steps to Declutter your Home Office

Studies show that it’s virtually impossible to be productive in a working space which is messy and cluttered. Not only do you get heavily distracted, but you often waste your day trying to locate the things that you actually need. It’s time to get decluttered for the New Year, so why not start today? Here are 6 easy steps to declutter your home office in no time at all.

Remove anything that doesn’t belong

Start your decluttering by moving anything out of anything that doesn't belong in your home office. Spend some time scanning all of your surfaces, cabinets and shelves for things that should be in the kitchen, living room or bedroom, and move them to where they belong. With many of us working from home for a long time, it's easy to bring things in from elsewhere.

Consider storage solutions

If you simply don't have enough space for everything in your home office, it may be worth investing in additional storage options. Consider buying some new filing cabinets, a new set of drawers or an acrylic organiser for your stationary. If you're still struggling for space, storage units are the perfect solution and are available for as long or as little time as you need. Get a quote from Easistore today.

Digitise paperwork

Paper documents are a common culprit when it comes to messiness in the home office. Most documents can go digital, so why not scan everything into your computer to save space? All of those invoices, bills, and sheets of paper can be stored on your computer, making everything easier to find.

Get clean

Decluttering your office wouldn't be complete without a thorough dust and clean. Now that you have most of your things removed or stored away, this is the perfect time to get out the feather duster. You’ll feel much better when you're surrounded by clean, fresh air than dust and dirt.

Place everything back accordingly

Now that your space is clean and tidy, it’s time to arrange everything into its new home. As you go, make sure that everything is organised in relevant folders and boxes (extra points if they are labelled).

Keep going!

Clutter grows over time, and to keep it under control, it’s always a good idea to start some new habits for the future. Take a little more time to put things back after you've used them, and spend 10 minutes or so at the end of your working day to have a little clean up. If you’re still struggling with storage, don't deny that you may need to invest in something to help you out. Finally, if you can see your clutter is starting to get out of control, it’s time to book in another decluttering session!
