- One month before the move
- Two weeks before the move
- One week before the move
- One day before the move
- The DAY OF THE MOVE!
One month to go...some quick moving tips
- With one month to go, it is time to see if you will need domestic storage facilities during the moving process. Moving some of your items into storage in advance of the move may make things easier on the day or to temporarily create more space in your new home while you redecorate.
- By contacting Easistore early we can help with any enquiries, moving tips and we can also advise you on which packing materials you are likely to need. To view a selection of the moving supplies we sell in-store or purchase your packing necessities online now, visit our packing supplies section.
- Contact a few local removal firms and get a few quotes before you choose which firm to give your business to. View our recommended remover’s page for details of the reputable local removal and van hire firms our customers regularly use and trust. Make sure your removal firm is properly insured and establish exactly what they are prepared to do before you give them your business.
- Order your packing materials – you can do this via our packing supplies shop and have your supplies delivered to your door in good time! Our extensive product range is sold on a sale or return basis, so you don’t need to worry about ordering more than you need because we’ll take back what you don’t use – as long as it comes back to us in a saleable condition within 28 days of purchase.
- Start packing any non-essential items such as out-of-season clothing, together with your best china, glassware and ornaments. Mark the contents clearly on the side and the top of the boxes so that the details can still be seen if the box is stacked.
- Clear out your loft, garage and shed if you have one.
- Advise your friends, family and any business associates of your new address and the date of your move. If your move hasn't already become a talking point, this is likely to prompt your friends and family to offer you their own valuable tips on moving home. Arrange to have post re-directed to your new address - there's always someone you will overlook when you send out your change-of-address notes!
- Keep all correspondence connected to your move safely together for easy reference - for example info from your Estate Agent, your Solicitor and the removals company
- Contact the companies who insure your building and contents and arrange your cover to be transferred to your new home to commence on the day you move in.
- Make sure you have written your moving house checklist!

- Review the progress of your moving checklist.
- Double-check the booking you've made with your removal firm.
- Keep your vacuum cleaner, dusters, polish, etc, unpacked for that last once-over.
Cancel any newspapers, milk and window cleaning and settle any bills you may have overlooked. If you have any subscriptions, advise the suppliers of your new address and move date.
The all important ‘day before moving house checklist’
- Prepare a moving day 'survival kit' containing your essentials, such as a kettle, mugs, tea, coffee, milk, sugar, teaspoons, sandwiches, snacks, biscuits, crisps, fruit, washing-up liquid, tea towels and a hand towel (not forgetting a toilet roll or two!).
- Pack all your valuables together (such as jewellery) to carry securely with you.
- Keep the file containing all valuable documents relating to the move accessible so that on the day of your move you can find it easily in case you need to refer to the information.
- Advise the telephone company of the time you would like to disconnect your telephone or transfer the number (if you're keeping it).
- Defrost the freezer and fridge (if you intend to transport the freezer and its contents intact, put it on fast-freeze overnight).
- Make a list of useful telephone numbers for the new occupiers of your home, including instructions for operating any appliances, central heating, etc.
- Make sure you have cash available for any unforeseen circumstances.
- Telephone your insurance company to double-check that your new contents cover will be in force at the time of the move.
If you haven’t already then now is the time!
